Sultan's Combinaton proved to be the most useful of
the spectral band ratios. The ophiloite proper manifests as pink
in the false color images. The primary composition of the ophiolite
is peridiotite, represented by the bright pink areas, whereas the gabbroic
base of the ophiolite can be identified by it's slightly darker appearence.
In addition to the ophiolite proper, the deep-ocean pelagic sediments (dominated
by carbonate) can be seen as lineated green regions to the south of the
ophiolites. These carbonates are stratagraphically above the ophiolite
and represent sedimentation that occurred near the mid-ocean spreading
center. Other carbonates, dominated by dolomite, manifest as bright
yellow. These rocks make a relatively young sedimentary package not
related to the ophiolite emplacement. The young carbonates have experienced
only minor deformation associated with regional doming.
